Waiting for our boat
Closed Published by Daniel July 27th, 2006 in Indonesia 2006 Bible Distribution Trek, Travel LogBecause the so called “travel agents” in this area don’t seem to be very accurate in their knowledge of all things “travel,” we ended up with conflicting info about when our boat was supposed to leave this morning. Some said 9am, some said 9pm. Not wanting to risk it, we packed everything up last night, and took taxis the 2 hours to the harbor town this morning, expecting the 9am boat. When we got to the boat, they said it was 9pm. Arg. That’s pretty much the story of our trip so far. Welcome to Asia. =) That left us with 12 hours to spend somewhere.
After some more conflicting info (and people expecting to get paid for telling us this “helpful” info), we decided the best place to spend the rest of the day was a nearby beach resort, though we didn’t know anything about it. It turns out this place is awesome (though a bit expensive for around here). But thankfully, not only do we have a restful place to be, but a great view of the ocean, a nice swimming pool…and even free wifi! (Which is why I’m able to write this post). So, thanks for your prayers.
There are still a lot of unknowns up ahead in terms of the boat ride. We don’t really know what the boat will be like, particularly each room. As I mentioned before, the room situation is less than ideal. All of us are sharing rooms with others not in our group, and only 2 of us are staying in rooms with each other (Mom & Katie). We are hoping to trade with others, but we don’t know if that will happen. Also, we have to find a secure place in each room for all our stuff, so it doesn’t get stolen.
One other thing: pray for Katie’s health. She seems to have caught the cold that I (Daniel) had, and is now feeling the effects pretty hard. Being sick on a boat is not going to be fun, especially if that gets combined with sea sickness. In the meantime, I’m going to enjoy this restful place He has provided for us.
Oh, and there’s a good chance this will be our last post for a couple weeks, since from here on out there’s little chance of getting on the internet, and certainly no chance once we get to the K town. These changes in travel plans still leave us with less time for the hike that we were originally hoping, so please pray we can still get to a lot of the key villages.
