Please pray …
2 Comments Published by Katie July 25th, 2006 in Indonesia 2006 Bible Distribution Trek, Travel LogThis being Country X (can’t name it for security reasons on this site), many travel plans cannot be taken care of ahead of time. The only airlines that fly to some of the more remote towns only have offices in certain parts of the country, so we literally aren’t able to buy tickets until we’re partway through our trip. This means that many plans remain up in the air even once the trip has begun, and tickets are bought along the way.
Well, let the chaos begin.
Our hoped route for flying into the town where we’re beginning our hike (which I’ll call K-town), was departing from M-town (where we are now), through S-town, and then into K-town on July 29 (then we’d begin hiking August 1). This plan was already a shorter version than the original, with a hike of only 13 days (constrained by the availability of flights out), but there aren’t flights on other days, so we’d had to adjust to it.
What we just found out today is that the flight from S-town into K-town that we’d hoped to buy tickets for is already full (we found this out as we were trying to buy our tickets). This means that we can’t get to K-town (from S-town) until August 4. This, although somewhat expected, is really disappointing because it would cut our hike even shorter.
There is a possibility of another flight to K-town through an alternate town (B-town), so we’re now looking into what this would cost and when it would be. Please pray that:
1. that God would make a way for us to still arrive in K-town as early as we hoped (through B-town), so we’ll have as much time as possible to hike (pray for July 29, or – if you’re really feeling full of faith – July 28
… that would be even better);
2. that we would be able to get at least a partial refund on the tickets we had already bought to S-town.
Thanks for your prayers. We’ll keep you posted on what happens.
PS – Health Update: Daniel is feeling better from his cold, and I still feel fine! Yay!
Hey Daniel, Katie, Joe, and Andy. I’m actually still in country, same as you guys. I’m at the most touristy place you can be right now, beautiful beach, doing my debriefing week with my team. I did about 3 weeks of language learning in the capital, 2 weeks of homestay with a national family, and 2 weeks where you guys grew up, except more southeast with a tribal group who live in treehouses and got to go to a sago grub feast and everything. Got malaria and pink eye too so that was fun.
It was awesome. It’s been an amazing experience being here and I’m sad that I will be leaving in the next few days. It’s been a lot of fun, and fun that I can speak the language somewhat ok. Totally fell in love with the people here and this country and its many many needs. Be praying for you guys and hope everything works out well and that things will be figured out. We’ll share pictures and stories when you guys get back alright? Take care.
Hey Oli,
We all just read your note. Thanks for writing. It’s awesome to hear a bit about your experiences!! We’re looking forward to hearing more, and seeing your photos. We had heard you got to Papua – that’s so cool! Wow, malaria, even? Nice. Too bad we couldn’t meet up while you were here.
We are getting ready to leave on a long boat trip (over 2 days), since all our flight plans got messed up. Right now we’re relaxing at a nice resort that has free wireless, since the boat doesn’t leave until tonight. We thought it left this morning, so we got all packed, and drove the 2 hours to the town it leaves from. Anyway, that’s why we got “stuck” at this resort for half a day.
Thanks for writing.
